ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lester V. Horwitz and his wife, Florence, purchased an historic home in 1979. From Ohio state archives, they learned that their farmhouse had been raided by Confederates during the Civil War. Thus began two decades of research to learn more about Morgan’s Raid. Beginning March 1995, he and Florence co-chaired a five-month exhibit, "Morgan’s Raid," at the Greater Loveland Historical Museum in Loveland, Ohio. The exhibit was honored by the Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums with the organization’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Concurrent with the opening of the exhibit, Horwitz began writing and collecting stories about the Longest Raid of the Civil War. The author had written brief histories about the raid for museum publications, but this is the first full-length book published on this historical event.

The author is a much sought-after speaker by historical societies, Civil War Roundtables, universities, colleges, libraries, genealogical societies and other Civil War descendant organizations. He has lectured to audiences from coast-to-coast.

He has also produced an audio book version of The Longest Raid. Currently, he is writing another book, After the Raid, which is a follow-up to The Longest Raid.
